F.A.Q.

Why does the converted file look crappy?

There are 2 main reasons for this. First, file formats can be incompatible (they support different features, use different types of compression etc.) and hence the conversion cannot be 100% correct and is lossy. Second, the used converter is not perfect and uses a "best effort" approach to convert the given file.

Why does the site not work with Safari or Internet Explorer (version <6) ?

This site is designed to work with a recent Gecko Browser (FireFox and Seamonkey i.e. work fine) and Internet Explorer starting from version 6. Any help is appreciated!

Where are my files I just uploaded? They disappeard!

This is due to the nature of an AJAX application. If you visit another site, it is like closing the application. So when you return to the site, you start from scratch.

Technically, we could realize some functionality to show all your uploaded (and converted files) for the active session again. But due to some security and privacy concerns we decided against it.

Why is there no MP3 conversion?

While the decoding (playing) of MP3 is quite unproblematic, the encoding (generation of the MP3) is critical. Some patents restrict the free enconding and a big unclarity exists about the use of available MP3 encoders like LAME. As there are more and more lawsuits concering this subject, we decided against a conversion to MP3. Sorry!

How long are my files stored on your servers?
